#DIGC102 Week 9 Blog - Wookiepedia
For the conversation analysis assessment Travis, Tim and I will be focusing on the Star Wars themed Wookiepedia. Wookiepedia is an online encyclopaedia and wiki that features user contributed data. There are 70,931 as of 26/09/2009 that very in the depth of content. Wookiepedia was chose as it not only reveals the history and discussion behind articles, but its wiki format allows anyone to contribute.
There are rules to what is published on pages in Wookiepedia. Content must be consistent with the Lucasarts universe and this is cause for contention for a number of articles. This is evident in the article for the planet Kashyyk, home of the wookie.
“Am I the only one that noticed the error in Revenge of the Sith that showed an ocean on Kashyyyk? Yes, I have considered the fact that this ocean may have occured over time, but, it kind of ruins Kashyyyk. Does anyone know why there is an ocean??—Rindu Highland 15:17, 22 Nov 2005 (UTC)
It’s not technically an “error”, as whatever is seen in the movies overrides the EU. And we don’t see much of Kashyyyk’s surface in the EU. Nevertheless, I think that in order for Kashyyyk to have so much vegetation, it needs to have a lot of surface water. It doesn’t “ruin” it for me. Even more, I’d like to see more surface water on planets such as Dantooine. - Sikon [Talk] 15:32, 22 Nov 2005 (UTC)”
This wiki employs a lot of jargon specific to the Star Wars universe. It also features moderators who make the final decisions on what is published. This wiki is also effected by trolling quite regularly and is evident in the history of some articles.
